SHIFTING PERCEPTION
In my last workshop on conquering fears, I worked with a lady who had a fear of spiders.  I asked her to switch position with the object of her fear, the spider, and experience a situation from that perspective.  This enabled her to significantly shift her reactions.

There are many ways in which we can shift our perception. We can change how we experience a situation if we approach it with a different mindset.

One way to shift perception is with a mindset of deep curiosity.  If you have an interview coming up, how might your experience be different if you focus on your curiosity? Interacting with people with the attitude of curiosity can help you make a favourable impression, and can also ease self-consciousness.

There are endless ways to vary your perception that can result in changing how you interpret a situation. It may require several different perspectives for you to find the best one.

In the workshop, we experimented with switching position with the object of your attention. This is a Buddhist practice that helps to develop empathy and compassion.

You can do this practice with people, objects, animals, ideas, intentions, and more… You can also try it if you feel out of control with food.

This is how to do it:

1 Think of an example of some type of food that you crave but you don't want to eat.

2 Notice the feeling you have about the food (guilt, shame, envy, desire, all of the them...)

3 Stay with the feeling, as you look at the object (in your mind's eye or before you buy/eat it).

4 Next, imagine being the food:  looking at you and knowing about the feelings you have for them. Take the perspective of the food itself.

5 Then, come back to yourself, in your own body, and notice how your feelings for the food may have changed.

6 Allow feelings of compassion for yourself to develop, as you detach from the desire from getting some type of relief from the food.

This exercise can be easier and deeper when done with hypnosis.

Come next month on the 21st of June in London to the self-hypnosis workshop,
and you will learn a simple process to help you shift your experiences on a deep level.
