Increasingly, the television, or "media centre", has literally taken center stage in our living areas and in our lives. The danger of this is not just the hours we might spend watching the screen, but also what happens when we are not watching.....
From a feng shui perspective, the television screen can pose a large problem, especially when the set is not turned on. When the screen is dark, it can feel as if the screen is absorbing our energy, causing a draining effect in the room.
The dark screen of a television can create an energetic condition that is a bit like a "black hole." This effect is a problem when the screen is in the parlour, especially if it is directly facing the main sitting area. But it is doubly as negative in the bedroom, as it faces us throughout the night.
Obviously, we do not want to have the set turned on at all times, so what to do when it is dark and we are using the room for other purposes?
In your parlour, if your room is large enough, I certainly suggest that you consider installing the tv in a large media cabinet, so you can close it off when not in use. However, you must make sure that the cabinet does not overwhelm the room.
With the advent of slim, wide screen televisions, it is also possible now to purchase a narrow wall cabinet that fits right on the wall, with doors that open like shutters whenever you want to watch the television. You can even disguise some of these wall cabinets with a painting!
At the every least, if you do not have the room or budget for these choices, consider draping a beautiful fabric over the screen when it is not in use. We have our tv console on a shelf in our parlour, and when it is not turned on, we have a beautiful cloth that goes over the screen, and this makes the room feel much better.
These considerations are especially important if you have a tv in your bedroom, and you might also unplug it when you are sleeping, so you are not exposed to the electrical energy.
Try this out, and see how it can improve the energy in your home.
